Pairing Chocolate & Spice
We’ve made it to January and it’s finally starting to feel a lot more like winter in Wisconsin. In just a few short weeks, downtown Oconomowoc will be celebrating its 11th annual Chili Fest, a fun-filled winter festival that Sweet P’s will be a part of. Hmmm, chili and chocolate?
You might be surprised to know that the combination of spice and chocolate is actually more popular than you think, dating back to the ancient Aztecs, who used to incorporate fiery chilies in a chocolatey drink called xocoatl.
If you too enjoy a spicy kick in your homemade chocolates, you can try incorporating a bit of cayenne pepper or chili powder into your melted chocolate to take it up a notch. A good rule of thumb is for every 14 ounces of chocolate, add one teaspoon of spice.
Adding cinnamon or vanilla to your spicy seasoning is another layer of warmth that can make your chocolate extra delicious.
Desserts like Mexican Brownies or our Sipping Chocolate are the perfect choice to warm you up during the cold winter January nights.
Both of these and more Chile infused treats like Chilefest caramels, Jalapeno nut brittle, Sriracha Pretzels are ready for you this month at our kitchen store!
Be sure to visit us during Chili Fest later this month to taste our Chocolate Chili, too!
